Cacti and other succulents provide a western or southwestern ambiance to any plant display. Most of the varieties deemed suitable as indoor plants are small to medium-sized. They’re hardy, rugged plants that can handle a bit of neglect.

Needing a little less water than most other indoor plants, succulents are also tolerant of drier indoor air. These plants usually prefer very bright light. However, cactus and cactus-like succulents can subsist on medium light levels for extended periods (much like wild plants are able to tolerate diminished light levels during winter) if they eventually return to brighter settings.
